What a minimum requirement actually means

A minimum requirement is a compatibility baseline published by the store, not a personal performance guarantee. It tells you the type of hardware the developer lists for running the game under some intended conditions. It does not promise a specific frame rate, a particular display resolution, quiet fan noise, or flawless performance while many browser tabs and background programs are active. If your machine is exactly at the minimum, set aside extra caution and compare every item, not just the graphics card.

The same rule applies to recommended requirements. Recommended hardware is not a promise that every setting will be perfect at every future patch level. It is simply a stronger published target. The official Steam page is the source of truth when the listing changes, so use it before buying rather than a screenshot saved during a demo or an old launch article.

Compare your Windows PC step by step

On Windows, open Settings → System → About to see your processor and installed memory. Open Settings → System → Storage to check actual free space on the drive where Steam installs games. For graphics information, use Task Manager → Performance, DirectX Diagnostic Tool, or your GPU vendor’s control software. Copy the exact hardware names before comparing them with the Steam listing; “Intel graphics” or “Core i5” alone is too broad to be meaningful.

Compare four things in order. First, verify that your Windows version is supported by the Steam client as well as by the game’s own listing. Second, compare CPU generation and model, not only the brand. Third, compare memory capacity and remember that background software uses memory too. Fourth, compare the graphics device and make sure you have more free storage than the bare stated requirement, allowing room for updates and normal system operation.

If one component falls below the listed minimum, do not assume that the game will be unplayable or that it will work because another component is stronger. Requirements are not a points system. The safest answer is the current store page, a demo if it is officially available, or a purchase decision based on the refund and support rules that apply to your region.

macOS requirements need a separate comparison

The Steam listing also shows macOS support. It lists Apple M1 with 8 GB RAM as the minimum tier and Apple M2 Pro with 16 GB RAM as the recommended tier. Check Apple menu → About This Mac for the exact chip, memory, and macOS version. “MacBook” is not enough information: Apple Silicon model, unified memory, storage space, and OS version all matter.

Avoid assuming that a Windows requirement can be translated directly to a Mac, especially for graphics. Apple Silicon uses an integrated architecture that should be compared to the macOS part of the official listing, not to a random Windows GPU benchmark. Likewise, do not assume every older Intel Mac meets an Apple Silicon requirement. Read the current store text for the version you plan to install.

Storage, updates, and room to recover

The Windows table lists 20 GB of storage. Treat that as the game’s stated requirement, not as the total amount of space your computer should have left. Steam downloads can need temporary room while applying an update, and your operating system needs working space. Leave meaningful free capacity instead of filling a drive to its last few gigabytes. This is ordinary maintenance, not a special Ledgerbound workaround.

If an installation fails, first check free space, download location, and whether the Steam library is on a healthy drive. Do not delete save data or edit game files merely because a download stalls. Use Steam’s normal library and support tools, then consult the newest official announcement if the problem matches a known issue.

Display settings and current limitations

Requirements say nothing by themselves about every display mode. The first official launch hotfix lists no windowed mode and no super-ultrawide support among its known issues at that time. This matters to someone whose buying decision depends on a specific monitor setup. It does not mean every display will fail, nor does it justify unofficial configuration edits. Steam Deck and handheld PCs

Steam Deck is a handheld PC, but a game being sold on Steam does not automatically make it Deck Verified or guarantee comfortable text size, input behavior, battery life, or performance. Check the live Steam compatibility section before buying for a Deck. A community report can be useful as an individual observation when it names the version and settings, but it is not the same thing as an official status.

After installation, launch the game normally through Steam, allow any initial setup, and check the options the game provides. Start with a display resolution appropriate for your monitor, close unnecessary heavy background programs, and play an early scene long enough to observe load times, text readability, audio, and input. Do not judge performance solely from a title screen.

If you encounter a repeatable crash or freeze, write down your OS, hardware, game version, display setup, and the sequence that preceded it. Check official patch notes before trying a workaround. If an official demo is currently listed on Steam, it can be a useful compatibility test for its own build.
